Management tip of the day. When a co-worker is stressed out:
- do not talk about you being stressed out in the past and how you dealt with it – your colleague is looking for a solution to their issue(s).
- do not say anything like “Don’t worry about it,” “That’s nothing,” “You’re exaggerating,” and “Get over it.” Instead, say, “You can handle this”.
- offer your help and, in case of negative answer, take a breath and hush for some seconds. This may help them realise something that could indeed be helpful.
