ICO Issues Fine for Marketing Emails Disguised as Service Messages

Fines for £70,000 fine against Flybe and a £13,000 fine against Honda Motor Europe Ltd for:

  • Asking users to update Marketing preferences (when these users had already opted out of them)
  • Asking users whether they wanted to be kept up-to-date for marketing communications, when no opt-in/opt-out options had been provided.

Mind, the EU GDPR hadn’t been effective by then yet, or else..
